Basho Valley Skardu

The word “Basho Valley Skardu” means Raisin in Balti, the local language of the valley, which means grapes because the valley is rich in grapes fruit. Basho Skardu is located in Tehsil Rondu District Skardu, Baltistan. The Basho Skardu is one of the most popular places to visit in Gilgit Baltistan. The Basho Valley Skardu is an ideal meadow for camping and trekking due to its beautiful green plains and streams. You reach here after two hours journey from Skardu city. You can enjoy Basha Valley butter and Marzan food (a Balti traditional food). The locals, tourists and foreign trekkers can be seen everywhere here, from Basho Valley to Skardu and back to Gilgit Karakoram Highway. If you want to visit Skardu city then this place should be in your list, it is a must-see places because it is near the city and you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the Himalayan and Karakoram mountains. Whenever you reach at Basho valley then you will be witnessing the world’s two highest mountain ranges Himaliya and Karakuram range at the same spot. The Basho valley is located on the Himalayan side and the towering Rocky Mountains across are the Karakoram mountain ranges. Basho Valley is 11000 feet above from the sea level.

After visiting the meadow, you can return to Skardu city on the same day being near of Skardu city. You also can enjoy fishing and taste different kinds of fruits and dry fruits.
The road leading to this valley is unpaved and only Jeep or Toyota can reach up to the top of the pastures. Small vehicles like cars and mini vehicles would not be able to reach.
If you want to buy any kind of fishing or hiking gear, you should buy these things from Skardu city before departure. There is no shops except some grocery shops.

Camping

You can also enjoy while doing camping here, as there are many camping sites near the Basho meadow enjoying by sounds of the flowing water and birds chirping.

Location

Basho valley is almost 8,850 feet above from sea level, 45 km away from Skardu city and approximately 10,500 feet high. After reaching Skardu city, you move towards Kachurah and then Sari village Round. After travelling about 1 hour, you will reach Basho wooden bridge, which is a so beautiful and hanging bridge. You can enjoy here hanging with your vehicles. The valley has high mountains on four sides.

Once you arrive in Skardu, reaching Basho Meadows is relatively straightforward. You can hire a jeep or take a local bus to reach the meadows, which are located about 15 kilometers from the town. As you make your way through the lush forests and rolling hills, you’ll feel yourself becoming more and more enchanted by the beauty of this magical place. From Skardu city, the journey through the Basho meadows lasts about 3.5 hours. The Basho valley’s residents depend on the lush, verdant meadow for grazing their cattle and as a source of food. One of the most popular tourist destinations in Skardu, Pakistan’s northern region, is the Basho Valley with its stunning natural scenery, towering snow-capped mountains, and rustic charm. On three sides of the valley, there are tall mountains. which also harbors ibex, deer, markhor, and snow leopards. Due to the extensive forests and stunning scenery, this location stands out among the rest of the area.

Basho Bridge: Basho Valley Skardu

Basho bridge is a so beautiful hanging bridge which made by wood. You can enjoy here with river view and beautiful sightseeing of the Himaliyan and Karakoram peaks. While crossing the bridge, one of the best seen is that you are moving / passing from Karakuram range to Himaliyan range. The bridge connect Himaliya and Karakuram.  The appearance of rocks here is similar to that of chocolate. Most importantly, it shines in the sunlight just like a big Chocolate rock.

Bashi Valley Weather : Basho Valley Skardu

The weather of Basho Valley remains good during July and August. While, during the other month it has cold weather. Therefore, you have to wear some warm cloths and jackets. During the winter season, it remains freeze and there will be lot of snow and people can not visit the area. During winter, the temperature in Basho Valley can range from -15°C to -25°C. However, the summer season in Basho Valley is good and temperatures may range from 15°C to 20°C.

The local population of Basho valley Sultan Abad village are very honest and has great skill of hospitability. They loves the tourists and provides them every facility. The also invites and presents their tradition Balti foods. On the upper side / top of the Basho valley there are many cows. You can enjoy the local milk, butter and lassi at there. The local people presents these food / drinking milks and lassi free of cost. The Wildlife community is responsible for protecting the environment and wildlife. The community decided that the deforestation is not allowed to cover things like animals or trees, instead, it intends to restore and enhance the natural landscape. The Wildlife and forest department are trying to protect the animals and forest here. If you face any problem here then you can contact with local administration of Rondu and Skardu districts. They will resolve your every issue being a guest of this side.
